The European Union might “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it deems “unwarranted” travel bans imposed by the US on five European individuals involved in fighting online hate and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.
European Leaders Decry US Move as ‘Intimidation’
Officials from Europe including Emmanuel Macron charged Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, following the travel bans were placed on figures that were at the heart of campaigns to introduce legislation regulating American tech companies.
“For far too long, European activists have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to coerce American platforms to punish American viewpoints they oppose,” stated the US secretary of state online. “This government will not stand for such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”

Germany, Spain, the UK and a chorus of EU officials joined France in condemning the decision.
