Pep Guardiola Voices Regret Over Broadcast Crew Incident Following Loss to Newcastle

The City boss confessed experiencing "embarrassment" after a confrontation with a camera operator subsequent to Manchester City's loss at Newcastle this past weekend.

When the match concluded, a visibly upset Guardiola stepped onto the field and engaged in intense talks with the referee, Sam Barrott and Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães, while also handling the headphones of the camera operator.

"I said sorry," Guardiola stated. "I'm humiliated, regretful, when I see it. I don’t like it. I apologised after one second to the operator. That's just me. With a thousand matches under my belt I’m not a perfect person, errors happen."

"What is for sure, I defend any team and my club, that’s for sure. The reason why I support my squad is clear – based on my career to win the Premier League we need near-perfect totals, 98 points, or we fall short."

Team Standing and Guardiola's Assessment

City are third and are seven behind the Gunners after what was their fourth league defeat this campaign. "Losing four games out of 12 we have to improve a lot," Guardiola admitted. "Mathematically, it’s possible still achieve all."

When questioned if this meant the quadruple was a realistic aim, he responded: "You are an experienced journalist, have you ever heard me about the quadruple in December when we won the quadruple? No."

Exchange with Bruno

Regarding his confrontation with the Newcastle player, the coach explained: "We have known Bruno a long time and post-match, home or away, we talk in the tunnel. Our paths always cross and we get along well. I enjoy it. I’m an emotional guy, I like discussing and move my hands."

Guardiola would not be concerned should a rival coach addressed his squad immediately after a game. "No - as long as it's respectful as I do, it’s not a problem," he said, before referencing Barrott. "He was part of it throughout the match, constantly. Goodness, very much so."

Debatable Calls

The team felt aggrieved that the officials denied a spot-kick on a Schär tackle against Foden, and doubted Bruno's positioning when Harvey Barnes scored Newcastle’s 70th-minute winner. Pictures published later show he was level.

Next Big Match

He will manage his century in Europe versus Leverkusen this week. "That's impressive, showing we compete annually," he commented.

The club has ten points after four games in the group, and Leverkusen hold five.
