It's tough for the Australian squad to set fresh records.

The top summits have long been mastered.

This is the team that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, along with another six T20 titles, and once went nearly four years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, those for the record chasers, are all that remain for a squad that has won it all.

It needed up to Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase exceeding 300, reclaiming their record for the largest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a compliment to the bowlers that have sported the yellow jersey over the past 50 years.

It's difficult for their batsmen to possess a record if not afforded the opportunity.

In the end, the outcome of Australia allowing 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy being given a chance to deliver her latest masterpiece.

Originally famous as the 19-year-old niece of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after her country didn't secure either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups held the previous year and has seen it all through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 championship victory happened three months after her bow and seven global championships have come from 10 tries across formats.

The gritty keeper was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India briefly halted the run of success.

That loss "drove us to reevaluate our levels," Healy commented earlier.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the title decider and was awarded tournament MVP. She made sure her country would not fail again.

Whether this latest epic knock exceeded that prior achievement remains open for discussion.

Some will argue the reasoning behind the pressure of a final. Others can counter with the difficulty that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What's clear is this century was far harder to anticipate.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 happened while she was the highest scorer, but this innings came after six matches in India since the start of last month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've observed me in the nets, it's been a challenging time because it seemed I lacked timing completely," commented Healy.

"However when you take the field, your competitive instincts kick in and you just lock into the match."

Healy's fighting spirit has continuously been her great strength - and an irreplaceable characteristic in succeeding legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, fallen to the 22-year-old seamer in each encounter, but here that only provided Healy's inspiration.

A single came off Gaud's first delivery and from there Healy was underway.

"The possibility to go out there and lock in a contest with her and merely enjoy the moment in that aspect, sort of got me going," said Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 deliveries - her fastest at the World Cup - and her century in 84 deliveries while she flogged anything short, striking 21 boundaries and three big hits.

By the time she was removed Australia required another 66 at a run-a-ball - a manageable total now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Pursuing 330 is new territory so I am glad we have the assurance to do that now," stated Healy further.

"Ideally we won't need to do it again but, if we do, we believe we can succeed."

That comment will be the last competing nations at this championship need to hear.

During the last week a sense they will win from any position has grown stronger - this success succeeding victory over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite being 76-7 at one stage.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a meeting with old rivals England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final place may likely be confirmed.

It was at that stage they were eliminated from the prior year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a game Healy couldn't play because of torn tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the inaugural occasion at a major tournament.

Such is her determination, she subsequently stated she wished she had played through the pain.

Yet even as she afterwards confessed those fitness problems have delayed consideration of ending her career, this championship is expected to be her concluding event as leader in ODI cricket and she is yet to win a world championship as captain.

Triumph in India would lead her to the peak of her ultimate challenge.
