This New Horror Film Can Be Streamed, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

Consider this a challenge for those in enduring partnerships who enjoy horror films: Sit down with your loved one and stream Together. This independent film success of 2025 has now made its launch on a streaming platform via Hulu. Outwardly, it might appear like typical body horror, but inside Together exists a profound meditation about our choices in loving each other.

An Introductory Film Investigating The Nuances of Love

Together marks the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It stars Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have been together for ten years. Having wed in reality in 2017, the two stars contribute a unique chemistry to their roles, skillfully embodying both the strengths and weaknesses of a long-term relationship.

The narrative commences when the couple move from the urban environment to the rural area for her career. A commonly used narrative setup, admittedly, but that’s largely where the conventions cease. Together transforms into as much a psychological exploration of the couple's dynamic as it is a film about physical terror.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While hiking near their new home, a storm hits, and the protagonists discover an underground cave. After being trapped overnight there and managing to escape, a mysterious influence takes hold of the duo. This force compels a otherworldly bond between them that goes well past simple connection.

The complete narrative is a gradually intensifying fright fest, blending bits of dreamlike terrors, gross (but not excessively graphic) body horror, and surprisingly comedic exchanges (sometimes during something grotesque). The director skillfully blends these components neatly and delivers them in a slowly mounting atmosphere of fear.

Nuanced Portrayals

A large part of Together is solely the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray manifold depths to the characters’ relationship. Her self-assurance and feeling of intimacy is suffering due to a emotional and physical gap. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his hesitance to focus on anything other than his floundering music career gradually emerges.

In contrast, Tim's character feels trapped and isolated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve relocated rural and distant from his social circle. He dreads the notion of completely losing his sense of self in Millie. This fear is amplified by the fact he does not operate a vehicle and relies on Millie for mobility.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie never makes one partner or the other the clear bad guy.

Tim and Millie face the sort of issues that are inherent in most partnerships over a long period. At their core, they continue to care for each other. They still laugh together, provide solace, and share intimately at times. But beneath it all, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their relationship.

Allegory and Meaning

While the paranormal elements in Together represent these fears of codependency and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the allegory never feels overly obvious or pretentious. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes provide a perfect parallel to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the supernatural and the personal serve the other symbiotically.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has left audiences divided on the film’s ultimate message about unhealthy partnerships. Accounts suggest that those not in relationships have understood the narrative as a strong argument for remaining unattached. Conversely, some couples experiencing tension found that the film ultimately assisted them resolve their issues.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own reaction could potentially serve as a great barometer of how you view relationships. Will the finale inspire feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a positive outlook on love? Will you see yourself in one of the characters and yell at the screen, or simply glance toward your partner and say, “We could get through that together”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an experiment you can embark on at this very moment.

Together is available to watch on Hulu as of this moment.
