Villa against Forest: Top-Flight Build-Up

Introduction

Hello and welcome to this Premier League clash between Villa and Nottingham Forest. The home side are the favourites to win in this early kick-off as they are soaring this season and are currently occupying third place, while Nottingham Forest are in 17th position and just a handful of points outside of the relegation zone.

Both clubs are entering the game off of the back of a setback as Villa were beaten 4-1 by top-of-the-table Arsenal and Forest succumbed 2-0 to Everton.

It will be a difficult task for Sean Dyche’s side to come away with all three points with Villa possessing one of the best home forms in Europe at the moment and they also recorded a team record of 36 wins across all competitions this season. But perhaps it’s a new year and a new narrative? The answer will be revealed very soon.

The team news will be released shortly before the start at 12.30pm GMT.

Dugout Insights

Forest boss Sean Dyche has commented on his opponent today:

"He’s [Unai Emery] done a fantastic job as a manager there. Their signings has been strong - invested a lot of money, to be fair, on some excellent players and they’ve shaped it into a strong side, so definitely a tough game.

We’ve just demonstrated lately, we’ve played against some of the top sides, or the ones that are tipped every year, and performed admirably against them - and a couple of teams perhaps not as fancied, we struggled more against them. That’s likely the test of the group - meeting the challenge of each game rather than just the big games."

Transfer Update

The midfielder has will not be staying at Aston Villa, news that was stated by the manager Unai Emery in the lead-up to this match. The boss said:

"We respect him as much as possible because he’s a very good professional, very dedicated. The issue we have with Harvey is this year he is on loan and if he is playing matches, we must buy him. We decided two months ago we are not persuaded to sign him, spending the money we need."

Form Guide

The tables have turned. This time last year Forest were in third place in the table, where Aston Villa are now. A lot of things have altered, including the manager on two occasions and the current boss is charged with keeping the club in the top-flight this season. Since being appointed on 21 October, Dyche has won 10 Premier League points and the side are just above the relegation zone with 19 games of the season to go.
