A First Glimpse at the Legendary Cast
This first look showcases Matt Damon portraying the king of Ithaca. Audiences are introduced to Tom Holland playing the son and Anne Hathaway as Penelope. During an emotional scene, the character pleads with her husband to vow he will return, only for him to look up and question what occurs should he fail. Furthermore, the preview provides a brief, shadowy glimpse of the mythical one-eyed giant, from whom sheep are Odysseus and his crew steal during their arduous journey.
Based upon a cornerstone in classic storytelling, The Odyssey chronicles the lengthy quest of the legendary King of Ithaca. After his triumph at Troy, which is depicted within the companion epic, the king faces a long and perilous road home.
Mythical Encounters and a Star-Studded Lineup
On his travels, the hero encounters numerous obstacles and mythical beings. These include the enchantress Circe, known for turning humans into pigs, and the deceptive Sirens. Despite these trials, Odysseus vows to overcome anything to reunite with Penelope and Telemachus in Ithaca.
The adaptation's cast is remarkably star-studded. Joining Damon, Holland, and Hathaway are Charlize Theron portraying the shrewd goddess, together with Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, and Jon Bernthal.
A Tale of Many Adaptations
Homer's epic has inspired many reinterpretations throughout history. These range from contemporary versions and a late-90s dance production. It has even been adapted into a musical called Epic: The Musical, presented as a nine-album collection.
